Hello, I'm a 29 yr old Police officer that has been very fearful of clowns since childhood, I mean this fear keeps me from doing walk throughs and my job at circuses ( if they are in town ) and events where I think they might be, I never thought that there were other people out there like me.. This makes me feel better actually.

As far as my fear i have no idea where it comes from,,,,,, it alsways seems to have been there, it does include mimes as well. Well anyway Hello and I'm sure you'll be seeing alot of me on here as I think this is an interesting place.

Thank you, and yes I'm scared of clowns, I've found a few others in the PD world that share my fear but I'm not ashamed anymore to talk about it ( I might regret this later but what the Hell?) 8-)

it makes total sense for a police officer to be at the very least cautious of a clown

the primary reason most people have this fear is because humans were made to be sensitive to the countenance and expressions of others--the whiteface and exxagerated features prevent the necessary info of survival being apparent.

How much more are peoples expressions and features necessary to an officer of the law to do his job?

there is a tradition of some clowns running from the law in disguise--jimmy stewart--was it greatest show or something?

police have always been very nice to me--but I don't wear the goo

Now that I think about it, everything I do, I read facial expression and body langauge, makes perfect sense, however I've been afraid of them since childhood ,,,,,,, hmmmmm, but you do point me in an interesting way to view it though.

also you probably know this but it is not uncommon for guys--successful in military type jobs to have this fear

larry a member of this site is a war veteran,i had a conversation with talk show host george noory who was in the military who hates clowns, this was illustrated on the hit tv show Las vegas where ed deline the tough ex cia agent had to leave the hotel where he runs security during a clown show.

it's not uncommon and getting alot easier to talk about

I personally feel alot safer having an officer on the site

(even tho i am a clown i am scared of the white goo and exaggerated features and won't let my staff wear it)

clowns arent funny

i'd have love to have seen that! i bet they have funny voices. are are they actually mute? did he have to explain himself through the medium of dance? or did you even need to put him in a cell? i bet he could put himself in an invisible cell and be quite content.

To be honest I didn't arrest the Mime, I was in the office when he was brought in for qeustioning, much to the delight of my officers ( some get a kick out of my fear),
I threatened demotions and pay cuts if he was left unattended in my station for much longer, Needless to say , things were moved along rather quickly. The wheels of justice turned and he was taken to the lovely detention facility. No jokes were made afterwards nothimg more said. I have a way of stopping "scuttle butt" as they call it.

Yes he was, and when they got him down the hall someone came in my office and asked if they had to read " You have the right to remian silent " to the Mime. they figured he would anyway
