I have a severe clown phobia and an unable to even look at photos of clowns. The summers are really bad because of the travelling circus. I've had to change my walk to the train station due to the number of posters with clowns on street signs and building walls.
I don't mind Krusty, not keene on Ronald Mc Donald but can at least look at him. I've always hated clowns, I can't think of one specific event. Infact, I hate anything with a white face, pantomimes, dolls with white faces, masks crazy people hang on their walls, etc. I think I'd pass out if forced to watch It or Halloween. Anyone else out there as bad as me?? :?:

I seriously can't think of one specific incident. I can't rationally say what it is about them either, they are just evil. I don't like anything with a white face though because they remind me of clowns. Needless to say It and John Wayne Gacy haven't helped my phobia.

Yes, clownaphobic. I am as bad as you. I see a photo/picture of a clown, and I am instantly terrified. My paranoid state makes me imagine them climbing out of the poster and coming to get me. When I SEE an actual clown, I have a panic attack. Seriously. However, I am actually trying to face my coulrophobia - hence joining this forum. My friends are helping me to look at different grades of pictures and images step-by-step so that I don't break into a cold sweat every time I get spooked by an image of a clown. I doubt I'll ever LIKE clowns (hey!) but I'd LOVE to get to the stage where they don't scare me witless, and I can just dislike them - along with most other people on this site! :) But I'm the same with mime artists, ventriloquists puppets, some dolls, and, like you say, anything with a white face.
But I bet there is something that triggered your phobia. Mind you, the whole John Wayne Gacy thing is enough to terrify anyone! He personified my nightmares. I'm with you, Clownaphobic! :)

With me it was The Joker, but John Wayne Gacy reinforced my hatred of clowns.
