and i still hate pop goes the weasel...

Okay, the subject line doesn't explain everything.. but I am both deathly afraid and detest clowns with a passion. Yep, I'm new too - and my brother delights in tormenting me with clown images, I cower when I see that stupid fecking Kia commercial with the car of clowns, cartoon images, ronald the freak, krusty doesn't scare me - but there was an episode with bart's entire room being nothing but clowns (the bed, oh god, that bed!) which was quite awful. I think krusty doesn't scare me because he looks almost exactly like homer..

Anyway, my story.. I think my coulrophobia started quite early.. someone got me a jack in the box with a clown that jumped out, and it played - oh, you know what it played! I hated it. I think I tried many times to get rid of it, but it kept finding its way back.. However, the climax came when I too was taken to the circus at age 5, I think. I was a shy child, not ever craving attention, and so it was fated that that virus like creature would suction on to ME while we were seated.. Yes, "Happy" decided to drive around in his little car, the lights focused on me, and he sprayed me with a icy stream of water for what seemed like days. I screamed my head off. It seems those vile creatures are everywhere too - commercials, movies, (ugh...dumbo was traumatic) books.. For other harry potter fans, I know that my boggart would have a freakishly gaping (fanged) red mouth, white face, and overly large shoes. Clowns are just unnatural and they try too hard - ergo, they must be destroyed! People seem to laugh at my phobia - an exboyfriend on our first date after hearing my heartfelt confession about my fear told me straightfaced that he was a birthday clown..I think my stomach violently contorted and then he said it was a joke. No, it's not for that reason that he is my ex..

Anyway, I think my phobia just adds to my charm and quirkiness - or maybe the weird factor. But well, it's me.. and I'm glad I have this new outlet. Also, I find it comforting to watch other people on tv with clown-phobia.. For example: Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. Other examples?

Pose as, or are, DWTC? And as for them, don't worry you have plenty of back-up against the clownies here! Including myself! Welcome and I'm sorry you had to go through the whole "Haha, you're afraid of clowns stupid," thing.

Some people hear voices, some people think their from a different world, some people see invisible people... and some people have no imaginations whatsoever.

why couldn't it have been a weasel that jumped out?

    well, thanks for the welcome!

so, i was just wondering...are there more coulrophobic females than males?

it's too bad that there are freaks out there that pose as clowns..if only there were clown detectors that kept them from coming here!

just a guesstimate based on forum posters, emails I've received and t-shirt orders, I'd say it was pretty darn close to 50/50. Maybe a little more on the female side.
